Tampa, FL --

Once again, the Lady Vols did what they had to do to win their second consecutive championship and 8th total. They played old Tennessee Lady Vols basketball. Hard, pressured defense and ball movement which Stanford could not keep up with.

Before the championship game, I said the squad that played team ball would win; and, the team that played the best team ball did win. Stanford just could not get their offense rolling. In the first half they had two long dry spells, the first lasting almost 5 minutes and the second lasting almost 2 minutes. That is a lot of time without scoring a single point, especially against a team like Tennessee. Stanford should hold their heads up high because of the great season that they had. They just fell one game short.
