Aggies Announce Non-Conference Schedule

The Texas A&M Aggies announced the non-conference portion of the 2010-2011 schedule; and, as has been the case in recent seasons, the schedule looks to be very formidable.

Head coach Gary Blair discusses a few of the  match ups in this interview from this past Saturday:

Eleven of the Aggies' 13 non-conference opponents advanced to postseason play a year ago.

The Aggies will compete in two of the premier fall women's basketball tournaments in the country - participating in the Jimmy V Women's Basketball Classic versus perennial power and 2010 Elite Eight participant Duke on Dec. 6 at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C., on ESPN2 and the Maggie Dixon Classic against Rutgers on Dec. 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Defending national champion Connecticut and Ohio State also highlight the Maggie Dixon Classic tournament field.

I've already marked my calendar for November 14 because the Ags will host Chastity Reed and her Arkansas-Little Rock teammates. Reed is a fantastic scorer (24.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg last season).

The Aggies also make a trip into Houston to face the Rice Owls on November 20 followed by a home game versus Liberty on November 22.

Other opponents on the Ags' non-conference schedule include Arizona and Michigan (both games in sunny Cancun) and home tilts versus California, Purdue, and TCU.

Based on the home games on this non-conference schedule combined with the usual battles in the Big 12, it looks like I'll be visiting Reed Arena a lot in 2010 - 2011. I'm looking forward to it.
